Being in my twenties, fresh in the music scene and fresh to the Sunset Strip, I was honestly perplexed by an entire population of 'kids' who would do anything to be noticed, be part of the crowd. Even those who appeared to be the center of the Sunset Strip 'universe' were starving to fit in. At some point after weeks or months of rolling from clubs to apartments and bungalow's, following the endless party, an emptiness would appear in their eyes. No real connection could be made. The young ladies, often immigrants from the midwest or small towns, could become the biggest enigma. 'I don't give a fuck' became their mantra. They were 'on fire' and would burn if you got too close. I imagined somewhere a Mom and Dad losing sleep and waiting for their little princess to come home. A pillar of ash, but still alive.
Fire
Lyrics
Water keeps on fallin'
Young girl keeps on bawlin'
She don't know the dif-frence
Between lovin' and desire
She's on fire
and she don't care if you love her
She's on fire
and she's younger than you think
She's on fire
and she's lookin' for another
She's on fire
Momma's little baby has taken to the street
Stranded in the night time
Hunger in her eyes
Ground still wet from rainfall
She finds a local bar
Chin up as she enters
She turns a head or two
And with her face, her charisma
She finds someone she can do
She's on fire
and she don't care if you love her
She's on fire
and she's younger than you think
She's on fire
and she's lookin' for another
She's on fire
Momma's little baby has taken to the street
She's certainly good looking She wears the finest clothes
Where'd the money go to
Did she do it up her nose?
She wants to get acquainted
Maybe spend the night
She wants to remain faceless
She asks you for a light
